North Korea’s despotic leader Kim Jong-un had some rather threatening words for weather forecasters in his country: You better start getting it right.
The state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported that Mr. Kim has been taking tours of meteorological buildings — all the while complaining that weather forecasters are giving “too many incorrect” predictions, CNN reported.
Veiled threat?
The news agency didn’t explicitly state that Mr. Kim threatened to take action against those responsible for the faulty forecasts. But it did include plenty of photographs of an angry Mr. Kim seeming to criticize and chastise some timid-looking officials who were cast by the newspaper as meteorological experts, CNN reported.
Mr. Kim said outdated weather equipment was partly to blame. But he also said forecasters’ scientific method could stand some improvement, CNN reported.
He relayed the importance of providing accurate weather reports to protect citizens’ lives and property from “abnormal climatic phenomenon,” and to help agricultural and fisheries industries stabilize their production, the state-run news outlet reported, CNN said.
