Police in Maine have arrested a man suspected of setting threatening letters inside Kennebunk-area parents’ mailboxes, signed, “Your friend, pervert.”

Robert Simkowitz, 39, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two misdemeanor counts of criminal threatening, a local CBS affiliate reported. He is accused of leaving three letters that read: “I will not stay away from your kids. Your friend, Pervert.”

Two were dropped into Kennebunk mailboxes and the third found in one in Arundel.

“You’ve got somebody lingering around the bush hiding and putting notes in your mailboxes, waiting for your kids to come out,” Kennebunk resident Ginger Nadeau told the affiliate. “Gadzooks, that’s crazy.”

Police said tips from the public led them to the suspect after a resident’s surveillance camera captured a man putting a letter in a neighbor’s mailbox.
