Two American-made military Humvees were stolen by an al Qaeda offshoot as the northern Iraqi city of Mosul fell to Sunni militants on Tuesday.
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is now transferring the vehicles to Syria for use in its civil war.
Jenan Moussa of Al Aan TV from Dubai tweeted images of the stolen military equipment, along with a picture of an ISIS military leader grinning after inspecting the U.S. vehicle.
“See [the] reaction of military leader of ISIS after inspecting a U.S. made Humvee that his group took from Iraqi forces,” she tweeted.
Roughly 150,00 people are now fleeing Mosul for Baghdad or Iraqi Kurdistan, Business Insider reported Tuesday. The unfolding events prompted Iraq’s Shiite prime minister to declare a nationwide state of emergency.
