MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A panel of scientists and scientists, engineers and regulators is set to gather in northern Wisconsin this week to discuss a potential iron mine just south of Lake Superior.

The group is scheduled to meet in Minocqua on June 5. Panelists will include Craig Benson, a University of Wisconsin-Madison engineering professor; Ann Coakley, a state Department of Natural Resources regulator; Cyrus Hester, the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa’s environmental specialist; and Dominic Parker, an assistant professor in UW-Madison’s agriculture and applied economics department.

The panel will give a presentation on Gogebic Taconite’s plans for an iron mine in the Penokee Hills near Mellen. Members also will take questions from the public.
