COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Freshman Wil Crowe tossed a four-hitter in his first NCAA tournament start to keep South Carolina alive in the Columbia Regional with a 9-0 victory over Campbell on Sunday.

The Gamecocks (44-17) will face Maryland, which broke South Carolina’s 28-game home winning streak in NCAA tournament play Saturday night. Should the Gamecocks win, they would force a deciding game against Maryland on Monday night.

Max Schrock and Joey Pankake had two RBIs each to lead South Carolina. Schrock’s two-run double capped the Gamecocks’ four-run fourth and gave them a 5-0 lead that was more than enough for Crowe to work with. He retired 17 of the final batters he faced.

The Gameocks had five straight hits as part of a four-run ninth.

Campbell (41-21) had hoped to build on its first-ever NCAA tournament win from Saturday, but could not catch up to Crowe or keep up with the hot-swinging Gamecocks.
