TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Federal officials are urging residents of Tuscaloosa and Blount counties to apply for tornado recovery assistance online or by phone.

AL.com reports that tornado recovery centers run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency closed in both counties on Saturday (https://bit.ly/1oVydwx ). The centers opened following a tornado outbreak at the end of April.

The deadline to register for FEMA assistance is July 1. Residents can apply online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362. Six tornado recovery centers remain open in other Alabama counties.
