Capitals right wing Tom Wilson suffered a fractured fibula in a fall last week and is recovering from surgery, his agent, Mark Guy said on Wednesday.

Wilson, 20, is expected to be cleared to participate “at some point” during the Capitals’ training camp in September, a team spokesperson said.

“Tom is resting and recovering nicely,” Guy said. “He should be ready at some point during camp.”

Capitals coach Barry Trotz was vague when addressing Wilson’s injury on Monday, saying the 20-year-old winger would be ready to play at the start of training camp, which begins on Sept. 18. Trotz is expected to address the subject again today.

Wilson’s agent said Wilson “rolled his ankle” but did not elaborate on how the injury occurred.

Wilson played in all 82 games for the Capitals last season, recording three goals, seven assists and 151 penalty minutes, ranking seventh in the NHL in penalty minutes.

Wilson was not scheduled to participate in the Caps’ development camp, which began on Monday at Kettler Capitals Iceplex and will run through Saturday.
