Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal weighed in Wednesday on the military and political fighting between Hamas and Israel, saying the United States must condemn the “terrorist attacks on the people of Israel.”
“Let’s be clear about this: Hamas and other terrorists are the perpetrators,” Mr. Jindal said in a statement. “There should be no ambiguity here. The people of Israel must know that America stands with them, that their struggles are our struggles, and that we completely support their right to defend themselves.”
Mr. Jindal is thought to be laying the groundwork for a presidential run in 2016 and has aggressively courted the religious right, in part by warning that religious liberty is under attack and sharing his story of how he converted from Hinduism to becoming a Catholic as a teenager.
Many grass roots and religious conservatives, which make up a powerful slice of the primary electorate, share a deep pro-Israel sentiment.
“As I watch the horrific images of missiles flying into Israel, I am reminded of the instructions in Psalm 122 — ’Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls,’” Mr. Jindal said.
