RICHMOND – Trent Williams was kicked in the left shin during the Washington Redskins’ practice Thursday morning but is not expected to miss any time dealing with the bruise, coach Jay Gruden said.
Williams, the Redskins’ starting left tackle, was slow to get up after taking the shot but continued to practice, pulling his backup, rookie Morgan Moses, out of the huddle. He downplayed the injury afterward and insisted he would be fine.
Jerry Rice Jr. had to be helped off the field Thursday morning with an apparent shoulder injury after landing awkwardly during a passing drill. Gruden said the wide receiver, the son of the Hall of Famer, had the shoulder examined during the afternoon.
“We’ll know more once I get the results back, but it’s pretty significant, I believe,” Gruden said.
Three other players – wide receiver Pierre Garçon, strong safety Phillip Thomas and defensive end Doug Worthington – all continue to recover from strained hamstrings. Garçon participated in individual drills for the second consecutive day, while Thomas and Worthington worked with athletic trainers on a separate field.
Right tackle Tyler Polumbus also missed the morning’s practice because of personal reasons, but had returned for the afternoon walkthrough.
