A Hayward, California, SWAT team on the search for a bomb suspect spent seven hours in a standoff at a home they thought was occupied by the targeted individual — only to find the residence was empty.
Snipers, bomb-sniffing dogs and trained bomb squad agents were called to a home by Alameda County Sheriff’s Office officers after they found several notes that said bombs had been placed inside the residence where they were trying to deliver an eviction notice, a local Fox affiliate reported.
After authorities unsuccessfully attempted to get the suspect to surrender, they sent in three bomb-detecting robots, at which point it was discovered nobody was even at the home, seven hours after they first responded.
No bombs were found, though police recovered some guns from inside the home and are determining whether the weapons were registered, according to the Fox affiliate.
Police aren’t releasing the name of the suspect, whom they are still seeking, the affiliate reported.
