Republicans hit hard at President Obama’s regulatory crackdown on carbon emissions from coal-fired plants, quipping that he ought to get off the golf course and head to coal country to see for himself how electricity is generated.
“I want him to get off the back nine and come into the mines,” said Rep. Mike Kelly, from Pennsylvania, The Hill reported. “I want him to get his golf cap off and get his hard hat on. I want him to walk the streets, and I want him to look in the face of moms and dads that rely every day on this precious product.”
Mr. Kelly made the remarks at a press conference to contest Mr. Obama’s coal crackdown that included the participation of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and former coal miner — and “America’s Got Talent” contestant — Jimmy Rose.
Mr. Obama wants his Environmental Protection Agency to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 30 percent of 2005 levels from 2030 — a level that electric plants and coal industry insiders say will cripple the economy and hamper energy development.
