A plane crashed in a San Diego parking lot for Costco and Target, killing the passenger, 80, and seriously hurting the pilot, 52.

Witnesses to the incident hurried to put out the plane’s flames and help pull out the passengers — two women — and the pilot, CBS News reported. Nobody on the ground was hurt by the crash.

The plane was a single-engine 1988 Mooney M-20I, and it went down in a parking lot for a Target, Costco and other stores in the Kearny Mesa community, CBS News reported.

The pilot may have lost power during take-off from the nearby Montgomery Field, CBS News reported.
