The son of Nancy Writebol, a missionary from North Carolina who contracted the Ebola virus in Liberia, said Wednesday his mother is improving during her fight against the deadly virus.
“She’s stable,” Jeremy Writebol told Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today” show. “As dad put it, she’s fighting through it, and continuing to express a few symptoms, but she’s able to move around on her own, and they’re getting lots of fluids into her. She’s working real hard to get through this.”
Mrs. Writebol was diagnosed July 25 and has been isolated amid an outbreak that’s affected 1,200 in three countries, according to NBC.
Her husband, David, had been working alongside her in Liberia with an aid group that takes care of Ebola patients. He has not been diagnosed with Ebola.
NBC reports Mr. Writebol may only see his wife through a window because she is in isolation.
