A 14-year-old Michigan girl was murdered last week as she walked her dog along the Macomb Orchard Trail, texting her boyfriend an ominous message just before her death.

April Millsap texted “OMG … I think I’m being kidnapped” to her boyfriend the night of her murder in Armada, just north of Detroit, MLive.com reported. The boyfriend was ruled out as a suspect.

State police are still searching for the middle school student’s killer after her body was found hours later by a couple walking along the wooded trail. April’s dog Penny was keeping guard of the girl’s lifeless body, MLive.com reported.

Armada police Chief Howard Smith on Friday declined to explain how April was killed.

“We’re at a loss,” her grandfather, Dennis Levans, told the Detroit Free Press. “She was just a beautiful young lady.”

About 300 people attended a vigil for April on Saturday night outside St. Mary Mystical Rose Church in Armada, MLive.com reported.

Two motor vehicles that may be connected to April’s death include a gray, beat-up, painter’s-type van and a small-capacity blue-and-white motorcycle, MLive.com reported.

Authorities are asking anyone with relevant information to call the state police tip line, 877/616-4677.
