A U.S. Air Force C-130 landing at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany was found with the body of a young male in its wheel well on Tuesday.

“The cause of death as well the other circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation,” Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said, ABC News reported. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the young man’s family.”

The cargo plane had previously made stops in Africa and Sigonella, Italy before landing in Germany, the station reported.

“The aircraft is a rugged aircraft designed to operate in austere locations. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody that the security at some of these fields is not going to be at the same level,” Adm. Kirby said in response to a question about airport security. “We shouldn’t expect that the security environment in every location that these aircraft operate in will be at the same high standard,” he added, ABC reported.

An investigation led by German authorities will now take place, ABC reported.
