A rare tornado ripped through Revere, a seaside city outside of Boston, ripping roofs of homes and ultimately leaving an estimated 100 buildings in shreds.
The tornado was brief, residents told the Boston Globe. But the destruction was massive and on Tuesday, residents walked around to survey the damage.
“Are we in Kansas?” said one resident, Judy Lane-Grech, who was in her home when the curtains started to blow, the windows smashed and all went dark, the Boston Globe reported. “I just stood there in amazement, it happened so fast.”
Another resident, Steve Capano, said he came home after hearing weather warnings about the storm and found his fence in pieces and scattered.
“Man, what a mess,” he told the Boston Globe. “I don’t even know where to start. It looks like a war zone.”
Other residents said that when the tornado struck, “it sounded like a bomb went off,” and that in the wake of the storm, they’re still “in a state of shock,” the Boston Globe said.
