Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell took a shot at Sen. Ted Cruz during a recent “Hardball” appearance on MSNBC, casting the Texas Republican as a “jerk” in the eyes of the American public.

During a segment comparing the tea party darling to former Sen. Joseph McCarthy, Mr. Rendell refuted Time political columnist Joe Klein’s characterization of Mr. Cruz as a brilliant lawyer.

“I disagree with that a little bit,” the Democrat said. “Cruz might be a brilliant lawyer and may have phrased it in legalese, but to the American people, he looks like a jerk, acting against the country at a time when we should be coming together.”
