I’ve been reading that Dr. Ben S. Carson, the world famous neurosurgeon, won the recent Western Conservative Summit straw poll in Denver by a convincing margin over the runner-up, Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Republican (“Carson wins straw poll as conservatives focus on winning battle of ideas,” Web, July 20). I like Dr. Carson a lot — but not as president this time around.

After eight years of President Obama wrecking the American economy, we’re going to need a Ronald Reagan-like visionary with an acute business sense. The candidate I have in mind is Donald Trump, but I do believe that Dr. Carson would make an excellent vice presidential candidate to balance out the GOP ticket with Mr. Trump as the headliner.

In his brilliant 2011 book, “Time to Get Tough,” Mr. Trump writes that repealing Obamacare should be a top priority for the next administration. With Dr. Carson as his running mate, Mr. Trump would have the ideal person to give the health care issue attention once he relegates Obamacare to the ash heap of history just moments after he’s inaugurated.

As I see it, Mr. Trump, the most famous businessman in the world and who orchestrated the greatest comeback in business history, and Dr. Carson, the brilliant neurosurgeon who knows what’s right and wrong with the health care system, form the perfect GOP dream-team ticket to rescue the United States from the Obama nightmare. With Mr. Trump and Dr. Carson, it would indeed be morning in America again.
