Republican David Perdue, who on Tuesday defeated Rep. Jack Kingston in a primary run-off in the race to replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss, said Wednesday he plans to run against Democrats’ policies over the last six years in the fall general election.
Republicans have accused Democratic candidate Michelle Nunn of equivocating on whether she would have voted for President Obama’s health care overhaul, though she has come out in support of key elements of the law while advocating for fixes.
Mr. Perdue was asked on “Fox and Friends” how he plans to run against a candidate who hasn’t necessarily outlined a crystal clear position on such issues.
“You run against Harry Reid, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi and the failed policies of the last six years,” he said. “People in this state are very upset about the performance in Washington now, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Mr. Perdue said he does have a lot of respect for Ms. Nunn, the daughter of former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn who served as the director of President George H.W. Bush’s Points of Light foundation.
“I was the outsider in the Republican primary — now you’re going to have two outside voices in Michelle Nunn and myself,” said Mr. Perdue, the former CEO of Dollar General and Reebok. “So we’ll be able to talk about the failed policies of this administration and talk about smaller government, lower taxes and how to get this economy going again. That’s what people in Georgia want to talk about, and we’ll be able to do that this fall.”
