Rep. Jack Kingston, Georgia Republican, said Tuesday that a planned lawsuit against President Obama over his executive actions is a step in the right direction, but that the best check on Mr. Obama would be a Republican-led U.S. Senate.
“The best way to shut down the Obama agenda is to take over the United States Senate in November, which is what I’m focused on,” he said on MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown.” “John Boehner is bringing this lawsuit and I think that’s a step in the right direction because it will have ramifications for future Congresses and that’s what we want to make sure, is that the balance of power is restored so that the executive branch isn’t constantly doing these end-arounds.”
Mr. Kingston is taking on businessman David Perdue Tuesday in a hotly-contested primary runoff in the bid to replace retiring GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
Democrats hope their candidate Michelle Nunn, the daughter of former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn, can stanch the tide of a potential GOP wave if she gathers enough momentum to win the seat in the solidly red state, but Mr. Kingston said that’s not going to happen.
“Tonight, regardless of who [has] with the most votes, we will be behind the nominee,” he said.
