House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday that while Republicans oppose President Obama at every turn, there were “many things” the two parties accomplished working together during the administration of President George W. Bush.
“It’s just a stunning thing that no matter what it is, if the president’s for it, the Republicans are against it, and that wasn’t the way it was when we had the majority and President Bush was president,” she said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “We opposed him on the war in Iraq and privatizing Social Security, but beyond that we got many things accomplished working together.”
Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat, did point to a worker training bill President Obama is poised to sign as one current example of cooperation.
“It wasn’t so good in the House, but it was improved in the Senate and we all support it, and the president’s going to sign it today,” she said. “So that’s one. But that’s meager compared to what we really need to do.”
