The Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Water sent out a baffling tweet that invited social media readers to join in an iPhone game about reality star Kim Kardashian, leading even one member of Congress to scratch his head and ask, “You OK, @EPAwaster?”
The tweet, from the agency that’s supposed to ensure drinking water is safe: “I’m now a C-List celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. Come join me and become famous too by playing on iPhone!”
The tweet then included text from the App Store about the iPhone game that read: “Join KIM KARDASHIAN on a red carpet adventure in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood! Create your own aspiring celebrity and rise to fame and fortune! CREATE YOUR OWN STAR and customize your look with …”
The Twitter post stayed up for hours, leading to thousands of tweeted responses from confused readers — including one from the game developers, Glu Games, ABC News reported.
“Keep at it @EPAwater, you’ll get there. #AList #WillowPapelsTheWorst #KimKardashianGame,” Glu Games tweeted.
Rep. John Dingell, meanwhile, tweeted: “I’m the last original author of the Clean Water Act, but I have no idea who/what a Kardashian is and I rarely play games. You OK, @EPAWater?”
And Rep. Steve Stockman from Texas had this to say, ABC News reported: “I hope the Kardashians don’t mind being associated with something that spends millions without contributing to society.”
Meanwhile, others expressed outrage.
“Glad to know @EPAwater employees (paid by taxpayers) are hard at work playing Kim Kardashian games on their iPhones,” another wrote.
EPA Water has more than 52,000 followers.
