Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California Republican, while claiming to “set the record straight,” engaged in typical cherry-picking of data in order to downplay the seriousness of our problems and exaggerate the costs of solving them (“Presidential snow job on global warming,” Web, June 27).

As a California resident, I have learned that this is unfortunately typical of his behavior. Mr. Rohrabacher’s claims are not simply false, they are irresponsible. While there is great value in including voices that disagree with the overall consensus on any topic, this is only true when those voices are both honest and informed — and there are such people even on the topic of climate change. Judith Curry comes to mind; while I think she’s wrong, I do believe that she is honest.

Mr. Rohrabacher is neither, and his contribution provides no clarity or help. His writing, in fact, only further muddies the water, misinforms readers and makes us as a populace less informed.
