First lady Michelle Obama, the nation’s unofficial food cop, said she’s swearing off French fries.

At the White House’s annual Kids State Dinner Friday, Mrs. Obama said she’s banishing the fatty food from her diet for now.

“I’m making a vow — I’m going to take a break from French fries,” Mrs. Obama said.

It seemed like news to President Obama, who asked his wife, “Really?”

“Yes,” she said.

“Wow, that’s big,” the president replied, perhaps remembering the order of fries he devoured just a day earlier.

The annual event brings 54 children and their parents from around the country to the White House to learn about healthy eating.

Mr. Obama said his weakness, as far as his diet, is “a bowl of good chips and guacamole.”

“I lose my mind,” he told the audience in the State Dining Room.

The president, who ate a burger and fries at a photo-op outing in Delaware Thursday, said as long as children eat healthy food consistently, “then having fun food that may not be perfect for you, that’s OK, too.”
