Faraj al-Shibli, one of the men suspected in the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, has been found dead.
He was last seen in the presence of Libyan militia members, who had detained him over the weekend, CNN reported.
It’s not clear if the man had been physically at the scene of the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi that left four Americans dead, but he reportedly had ties to al Qaeda and had been questioned by the FBI about his affiliation.
The cause and circumstances of his death have not yet been determined, but CNN reported that a “Libyan source and locals in the town of Marj” say his body was discovered in the eastern Libyan town.
