With the Veterans’ Affairs scandal roiling in the background, former senator Scott Brown’s campaign in New Hampshire released an ad Monday that touts his military background and focuses on veterans’ health and employment.
The 30-second spot, titled “Respect,” pits his longtime service in the Army National Guard against the Obama administration’s recent record at VA hospitals and medical centers.
“Veterans deserve better than long waits for patient care — a national scandal,” Mr. Brown says in the ad.
Congress is investigating why VA offices around the country, particularly in Phoenix, used secret wait lists to disguise long wait times. Some veterans died while waiting for care.
Mr. Brown, who represented Massachusetts in the Senate from early 2010 to January 2013, is trying to make a comeback by taking on Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire Democrat.
He may be held back by carpetbagger claims, since he changed his permanent residence to the Granite State to run, but his campaign is painting Mrs. Shaheen as a close ally of President Obama who is responsible for the administration’s health care and veterans’ woes.
“No one should fight for American overseas, only to return home and fight for respect here,” Mr. Brown said.
