Nadine Gordimer, 90, South African author who fought apartheid, dies

Nadine Gordimer, a Nobel Prize-winning writer who took on apartheid in South Africa, died Sunday at the age of 90, her family announced Monday.

CNN, citing a family statement, reports Gordimer died in her sleep.

She won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1991 for work that pushed back at South Africa’s former system of racial segregation. An anti-apartheid activist, some of her works were banned in the country.
