President Obama on Thursday invoked the late Ronald Reagan in pushing Republicans to support comprehensive immigration reform.

Speaking at a rally in Austin, Texas, the president referenced the 1986 immigration overhaul that. among other things, offered legal status to many illegal immigrants already in the U.S.

Today’s GOP, the president said, should take a lesson from Reagan, who signed the measure into law.

“Ronald Reagan passed immigration reform and you love Ronald Reagan. Let’s go ahead and do it,” Mr. Obama said.

A broad immigration reform bill passed the Senate last year but has stalled in the House.
