I won’t soon forget the Fourth of July we just celebrated. My husband and I saw the excellent movie “America: Imagine the World Without Her,” the documentary by Dinesh D’Souza. I believe every patriotic American should see this movie. We then completed our celebration by watching the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks and hearing words that can’t help but warm the hearts of true patriots: “forever proud, forever free,” “with liberty and justice for all” and “land of the free and the home of the brave.”

As a member of the older generation, I can easily recall the days when I could feel assured that my freedoms in the First Amendment would never be threatened in the course of my lifetime or in the lifetimes of my children and grandchildren. I saluted Tammy Bruce’s recent column, “When a reporter’s story hits the White House wall” (Web, June 26). She had the courage to expose the attacks on three esteemed, award-winning, fearless investigative reporters — Lara Logan, Sharyl Attkisson and Judith Miller. These women truly “exemplify what it takes to be investigative journalists.” The attacks on them are also attacks on the freedom of speech we are all supposed to have as Americans.

It is no wonder that so many of our young people and many of our Democrats have no idea what the Obama administration is actually trying to do to the country we love so much. President Obama, who promised transparency, probably knew back then that he would instead go so far as to prevent the mainstream media outlets from reporting any political news that would not make him appear to be fulfilling the duties of his office in an exemplary way.

I pray that God blesses and saves the America Mr. Obama wants to change — before we celebrate another Fourth of July.
