Alec Baldwin is in talks to play a new leading man character in a drama series with NBC Productions — a Rob Ford-like mayor who fights personal demons and addictions while serving as the lead executive of New York City.
Deadline Hollywood first reported the development and said the show is a near take-off of Mr. Ford’s high-profile and scandalous mayoral service in Toronto, which most recently saw him emerge from rehab for reported alcohol abuse. Mr. Ford’s also made worldwide headlines for crack use and his most recent quote, as reported in Mashable: “[I’ve used] every drug you can probably think of.”
Mr. Baldwin, who’s made headlines of his own of late for decrying the press in New York City and photographers’ penchant for taking his family’s photos, most recently played a tabloid reporter on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
Mr. Baldwin also served for a short time as a host on an MSNBC news talk show, but lost the gig after issuing a homophobic rant a photographer with the New York Post that drew outrage from the gay-rights crowd.
