Justin Peters is the Washington Capitals’ new backup goaltender.
The 27-year-old signed a two-year deal worth $1.9 million as NHL free agency opened Tuesday.
Peters went 7-9-4 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .919 save percentage last season in 21 games with the Carolina Hurricanes.
He’ll serve as Braden Holtby’s backup in Washington.
“We are pleased to sign Justin to a two-year contract,” Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said in a statement. “We feel he is just entering his prime and has a tremendous upside. We look forward to him working with our goaltending coach Mitch Korn to reach his potential.”
