Actress Lily Tomlin married her long-time lesbian partner, Jane Wagner, in a New Year’s Eve ceremony.
The announcement was made in a small insert at the tail end of a Liz Smith column in the entertainment section of The Chicago Tribune.
Ms. Smith wrote in her column: “It was an eventful New Year’s Eve. I was hobnobbing with the attractive Madeleine and her hubby, the gifted Andrew Lloyd Webber, in Barbados in a gorgeous mansion by the sea. Now I am back in little old New York no worse for the wear. And my longtime friends, Lily Tomlin and her love, the writer Jane Wagner, got married on the eve of 2014. … My wish is that their happiness will be as great as their combined talents.”
E! News confirmed the hitch, saying the 74-year-old actress has been with her partner for 42 years. They finally married in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve, Ms. Tomlin’s representative said to E! News.
“They’re very happy,” the rep said, to the media outlet.
Ms. Tomlin had mentioned to E! News in October that she was planning a winter wedding.
She said then: “We’re talking about it. I think December, I’m off. I have no obligations at the moment.” And the couple also mentioned to the same media outlet a few months earlier that they were planning to get married.
In August, Ms. Tomlin told E! News: “You don’t really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice. Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very, very happy about it.”
