Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal had made a friendly bet on the 2014 Outback Bowl in Florida last week, and now the Iowa Republican owes his state some ham.
“If LSU wins, LA and IA food banks each get 100 lbs of IA pork. If IA wins, will send 100 lbs of LA seafood to both a LA and IA food bank,” Mr. Jindal, a fellow Republican, tweeted on Dec. 31.
LSU won against the Hawkeyes 21-14 the next day.
“What a win! Bring on the Seahawks. Who dat!!!” he later wrote.
According to The DesMoines Register, the ham will come from the Iowa Falls-based Iowa Select Farms.
“I’m proud of the season the Iowa Hawkeyes had and for their tremendous effort in the Outback Bowl against Louisiana State University,” Mr. Branstad said in a statement. “I’m pleased today to donate Iowa pork to two fine organizations that help feed the hungry in local communities. I would also like to thank The Deb & Jeff Hansen Iowa Select Farms Foundation for their generosity in donating the pork for this friendly wager.”
The news release stated that no taxpayer funds will be used for the transaction.
