Dozens of homeowners near the Canada-Maine border have been evacuated after a train carting crude oil and propane derailed and caught fire.
Firefighters were on scene Wednesday at the New Brunswick area, trying to contain the flames, CNN reported.
“We have evacuated homes in the immediate area,” said Sharon DeWitt, an emergency responder spokeswoman for the community of Plaster Rock, in CNN.
Ambulance New Brunswick said nobody was transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The freight train was headed to Moncton from Central Canada and derailed, a Canadian National Railway spokesman said to CBS News. About 45 homes were evacuated. Only the engineer and conductor were on board, and they weren’t hurt, said authorities at the scene to CNN.
It’s not clear why the train derailed, but Canadian officials are investigating.
