Princess Cristina, the younger daughter of King Juan Carlos, was charged with tax fraud and money laundering in a dramatic court ruling that could lead to an unprecedented trial against a royal family member.
Spanish media reported on Tuesday that the examining magistrate in Palma de Mallorca, Jose Castro, issued a 200-page ruling that boiled down to the blunt charge: The princess, 48, has committed several high-profile crimes of money.
Reuters reported that she’s been called to answer the charges by March 8.
Her husband is former Olympic handball player Inaki Urdangarin. He’s been charged with embezzlement and several other crimes tied to his Noos Foundation, a nonprofit he runs that won several contracts for conferences on sports and business, Reuters reported.
