Sen. Rand Paul said Obamacare has proven a futile effort for his family after his son was dumped into Medicaid — despite his attempt to pay for his plan — and had to physically go to the local welfare office to prove he was alive.
“I actually tried to get my son signed up through the Kentucky exchange, you know, that the Democrats have said is so good,” Mr. Paul said, on ABC’s “This Week” television broadcast. “We didn’t try to get him Medicaid. I’m trying to pay for his insurance. But they automatically enrolled him in Medicaid.”
But that wasn’t the end of their troubles, Fox News reported.
The family called health officials for assistance — but the officials refused to discuss the matter because they weren’t sure the son actually existed.
“He had to go down to the welfare office, prove his existence,” Mr. Paul said, on Fox News. “Then the next thing we know, we get a Medicaid card.”
But he’s still not sure what health insurance they have, he said.

“I’m uncertain now whether I’m enrolled in D.C. and/or Kentucky,” Mr. Paul said, in Fox News. “And it’s a mess. I keep getting an error code every time I go in [to the state website], It will not let me edit my policy to try to make sure that my family is covered. … This is an unfolding disaster that I don’t think gets better any time soon.”
