The United States Embassy in Beirut on Sunday urged extreme caution among Americans in Lebanon following a string of bombings in the country.
The embassy made recommendations in a security message to Americans in Lebanon to avoid hotels, Western-style shopping malls, grocery stores and social events where U.S. citizens congregate, saying such sites are likely targets for terrorist attacks, the Associated Press reported.
Two deadly bombings have hit Beirut in the past several days, killing at least a dozen people.
At least five people were killed on Thursday when a car bomb exploded near a well-populated residential area in the southern district of Beirut.
An al Qaeda-linked group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), claimed responsibility on Saturday for the attack and it has vowed that there will be more, the AP reported.
The attack highlights how the growing war in Syria is increasingly spreading into neighboring Lebanon.
