Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos was airlifted from the Galapagos Islands Wednesday after he suffered from kidney stones, authorities said.
Mr. Bezos, 49, was evacuated from a tourist cruise near Santa Cruz Island and airlifted on New Year’s Day by an Ecuadorian navy helicopter, CNN reported. The CEO had developed renal colic, the navy unit said in a press release.
Renal colic is marked by severe pain associated with kidney stones, CNN reported.
Mr. Bezos was then flown by private jet back to the United States.
In an email Saturday, an Amazon spokesman relayed a message by the CEO: “Galapagos: five stars. Kidney stones: zero stars,” the Wall Street Journal reported.
“He got a good outcome. No surgery was required, and he’s feeling well,” spokesman Drew Herdener said Saturday.
