LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers says he’ll challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the 2016 elections.
He says he’ll introduce his candidacy with a brochure mailed to voters statewide.
The fiscal conservative is a certified public accountant who served in the Nevada Legislature from 1999 to 2008. He finished second in a five-way primary for the Republican nomination for governor in 2006.
Beers says he was approached by a group who wanted him to run for Reid’s seat, but didn’t want to campaign unless they could raise enough money for a statewide mailer.
He says the group came through, so he’s running.
Beers says Washington needs an intervention and tells The Associated Press he’s not intimidated to run against the powerful Democrat Reid, who was elected in 1986.
