RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - National unions, pharmaceutical makers and insurance companies were some of the biggest backers of the largest single donor to Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s campaign last year.

The Democratic Governors Association released tax filings Thursday showing its contributors during the last half of 2013.

The donors include health insurer Amerigroup, drug company Eli Lilly, and the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees.

According to Virginia Public Access Project, the DGA was the McAuliffe campaign’s single biggest donor by far, giving more than $6.6 million.

Because the DGA channeled its money to a federally registered super PAC, DGA Action, before donating to the McAuliffe campaign, it did not disclose to state regulators its donors during the last few months of the campaign like its Republican counterpart, the Republican Governors Association.
