NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Justin Sears came off the bench Friday night to score 22 points and lead Yale over Columbia 69-59.

Sears made his only 3-point attempt while shooting 5 of 8 from the field and 11 of 13 from the free-throw line. Armani Cotton added 13 points and Matt Townsend scored 11 for the Bulldogs (8-9, 2-1 Ivy League).

Sears’ dunk and Townsend’s layup put the Bulldogs up 59-52 with 1:58 to play and Yale made 10 of its last 11 free throws to complete the victory.

The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 14-5 run capped by Cotton’s free throws with 14:14 left to take a 37-25 lead.

Columbia fought back to within three points on four different occasions, the last coming at 55-52 with 4:37 to play.

Alex Rosenberg led the Lions (13-7, 2-1) with 17 points. Maodo Lo and Grant Mullins added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
