WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A Purdue University professor who police say was shot and seriously wounded by her husband has been upgraded to fair condition.
The Journal & Courier reports (https://on.jconline.com/1fiIuN5 ) 51-year-old Marcia Gentry was upgraded from serious to fair condition Friday afternoon at an Indianapolis hospital.
The Tippecanoe County sheriff’s department says Gentry was shot multiple times in her lower extremities Thursday night by her 64-year-old husband, William Byers. He was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the couple’s home near West Lafayette.
Sheriff Tracy Brown says the family’s dog was also found fatally shot.
Gentry is a professor in Purdue’s educational studies department and court records show she had filed for divorce in November from her husband.
The couple’s 15-year-old daughter was out-of-state at a boarding school.
