COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says flaws have been found during examinations of control rod drive mechanism housings at southwestern Michigan’s Palisades Nuclear Power Plant.
The agency announced Thursday that operators of New Orleans-based Entergy Corp.’s plant found the flaws in 17 of 45 housings during inspections while the facility is offline for refueling and maintenance. The mechanism housings are part of the reactor coolant system boundary.
The NRC says there currently is no evidence of leakage and there’s no adverse effect on safety.
Entergy spokeswoman Lindsay Rose tells the Kalamazoo Gazette in an email that plans call for replacing the 17 housings.
The plant is located on the shore of lake Michigan in Van Buren County’s Covert Township, about 55 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
