TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A union official says approval of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline would create construction jobs for hundreds of workers across the U.S.
A State Department report issued Friday raises no major environmental objections to building the pipeline that would run from western Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast - crossing Oklahoma.
Business manager Danny Hendrix for the Pipeliner’s Local 798 in Tulsa - which represents about 7,000 workers across the U.S. - says more than 650 workers from the union could work on the project.
Hendrix says about 350 union members worked on the southern leg of the pipeline that has opened and is carrying crude oil from Cushing to the Texas Gulf Coast.
Oklahoma’s all-Republican congressional delegation and the governor called on the president to approve the project.
