VINELAND, N.J. (AP) - A new Jersey mayor is telling city employees not to talk to members of the city council without his permission.

The Daily Journal of Vineland (https://vineland.dj/1depoFv ) reports Mayor Ruben Bermudez sent an email to Vineland administrative branch employees. In the email, he says the educt applies particularly to department heads.

He cites a state law that says municipal council should deal with administration employees through the mayor.

Opponents of Bermudez are gathering signatures in an effort to force a recall election for the mayor. He also has a tense relationship with the city council.

City Council President Anthony Fanucci calls the new edict “not good leadership.”
