CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire is getting nearly $3.4 million in federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Funds.

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte had written to Department of Health and Human Services last week calling for the immediate release of the funds for New Hampshire households.

The release of the funds will allow low-income families and seniors to access the assistance more quickly.

Shaheen and Ayotte say despite an increase of $169 million for LIHEAP funding from Fiscal Year 2013 to 2014, the number of households eligible for the funds continues to surpass those able to receive assistance.
