DETROIT (AP) - Michigan is bracing for another round of winter weather this weekend after a frigid, snowy January that broke records in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service warns of snow starting late Friday or early Saturday, with more than 6 inches forecast in western and mid-Michigan. In the Detroit area, a few inches likely will mix with freezing rain. Up to 6 inches is possible in the northern suburbs.

Through Thursday night, the weather service says the Detroit area saw 39.1 inches of snow in January. That earlier broke the record for January and now tops the record for the all-time snowiest month for the Detroit area of 38.4 inches set in February of 1908.

In western Michigan, higher snowfall totals have been recorded but they’re not record levels.
