PUTNAM, Conn. (AP) - The family of a Connecticut veteran who served in France during World War I is being presented with a purple heart in his honor.
U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney is planning to present the award Friday to the family of the late Harvey Stevens of Putnam.
Courtney’s office says Stevens was serving as a private in northern France on Oct. 14, 1918, when he was hit by shrapnel that went through his right arm. Stevens was not treated at the base hospital until four days later.
The congressman plans to make the presentation in Putnam to the veteran’s children, Phyllis Thurlow and William Stevens
