SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A co-owner of a Spokane Valley coffee stand that reported vandalism and an arson attempt last week has been arrested and charged with second-degree arson.
Law officers on Friday arrested Jennifer Na, one of two sisters who runs the Coffee Break espresso stand, on suspicion she set the fire herself.
The Spokesman-Review (https://bit.ly/1nxjnMu ) reported she is also believed to have spray painted “Go back to China” on the pavement outside the stand, which led to speculation that it was a hate crime.
Spokane Valley Assistant Fire Marshal Clifton Mehaffey says surveillance video shows her entering the coffee shop late at night with a gas can in her hand.
He says Na initially denied the accusation, but then confessed.
Mehaffey says he has received no motive for the actions.
