BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - An eight-year case over backyard debris at a home in Burlington, Vt., is headed to the state’s environmental court.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1fjsFrf) neighbors have complained about conditions at the small white ranch home since 2006. The property is owned by Jeannie Kail Vento, president of Speeder & Earl’s Coffee Roastery, who has declined to comment. She lives there with her husband Arthur Vento, a retired postal worker.

Arthur Vento said he has sought help for a hoarding problem and has worked to clean up his yard in response to city orders. The Ventos have paid about $5,200 in penalties in response to city zoning enforcement actions, but the city contends the property remains in violation of zoning rules.
